I am writing to protest at the outrageously high scale of charges in the underground car park at Gloucester Green, Oxford.
As a voluntary worker, I organised a charity premiere of the James Bond film in the Odeon, George Street, and parked my car at 5.12pm on November 19.
I paid £2 for an hour's parking. That was all the change I had. I thought that would carry me over to 6.30pm, when charges cease.
Regrettably, I did not see the notice that the car park closed at midnight -- I accept that was my fault.
I was occupied until 12.15am and returned to find the car park closed. I knew I would have to pay a fine and took a taxi home at a cost of £25. When I returned next morning, I had two tickets totalling £160!
Since my car was not causing an obstruction and was in the car park at my own risk, I cannot see how the council can justify such an exorbitant amount.
I am being charged £80 for 18 minutes' parking (from 6.12pm to 6.30pm), and a further 'fine' of £80 for parking overnight.
I am sure that I am not alone in thinking this is immoral and extortionate.
