Mr Reid was in town with his MGZS touring car to attend the re-opening of Kernahan MG Rover in the High Street.
He joined customers at the event marking the expansion of the dealership showroom, which can now hold 10 cars.
During the expansion, an 18th century well was discovered and is now a feature of the showroom.
Owen Kernahan set up the firm about 40 years ago and his son Martin is the managing director.
Kernahan spokesman Neil Wisbey said: "We wanted to show old and existing customers our fabulous range."
