Bookseller Blackwell's has reported its best ever back-to-university sales period, with sales up 2.5 per cent against a 'very aggressive' target.
The Oxford-based retailer has announced a series of appointments as it looks to capitalise on the healthy figures.
Steve Carter has become head of information technology with Susie Organ as online affiliate manager -- a new position aiming to capitalise on Blackwell Direct's 80 per cent year-on-year growth.
Sue Gregory, formerly manager of the medical bookshop at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, has been promoted to medical sales manager.
Helen Jones joins Blackwells from UGC Cinemas. She will become head of marketing on January 2, and will report to marketing director Michael Neil.
Following online bookshop Amazon's offer of free delivery on orders of £39 and above, Blackwell's Online Bookshop responded with the promise of free delivery for all books ordered.
