With no affiliation to either club, I attended the football match between Wallingford and Wimbledon out of interest and curiosity (Oxford Mail, November 25).
I have read various media accounts about incidents in the clubhouse at half-time. But there was a more favourable aspect to the match.
I was surrounded by partisan Wimbledon supporters and was impressed by their bonhomie and good nature.
Their season in the nether regions of the football pyramid has clearly developed into an enjoyable experience and it is not surprising that they are so welcome at away games.
AFC Wallingford are to be congratulated on the way this unique and challenging event was planned, managed and controlled.
With a normal attendance of about 100, they had to face the logistics imposed by a crowd of some 2,500, as well as having emergency plans in place to contain and defuse the troubles in the clubhouse, assisted by the rapid response of the police.
Hardly anyone in the crowd realised that there had been a problem until after the match.
