A 12ft candlestick was lit in Oxford to mark the start of the traditional Jewish holiday Chanuka.
Also known as the festival of lights, Chanuka is being celebrated by the city's Jewish community until December 7.
Jewish education organisation Chabad was granted permission by Oxford City Council to light the giant candlestick, a menorah, in St Giles, next to the war memorial on December 1.
It will stay alight until the festival ends.
The lighting ceremony was attended by Oxford dignitaries, including Oxfordshire Lord Lieutenant, Hugo Brunner, and the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Gill Sanders.
