Chalfont St Peter 1, Abingdon Tn 2: Abingdon recorded their third straight Ryman Division 2 victory under new boss Pete Lamont with Saturday's win at struggling Chalfont St Peter.
In so doing, they also stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games, but were made to work hard for the three points on a sticky and uneven pitch.
Garry Parker, who was ineligible for the midweek Berks & Bucks Senior Cup defeat at Windsor, marked his return with another goal - his third in as many games.
Abingdon's midfield took control early on and after four minutes, Parker's attempted lob was only inches the wrong side of a post.
Chalfont's Gavin Windell then saw a shot comfortably saved by Jonny Beames, before Parker again went close, this time with a 25-yard free-kick.
Another Parker free-kick saw Matty Hendra glance in an effort which keeper Danny Coleman did well to turn round a post.
Two minutes later, Abingdon took the lead. Parker sent in a corner and Chris Harper headed home from eight yards.
Town increased their lead when Tristan Didcock was fouled 25 yards out and dead-ball expert Parker struck again, although keeper Coleman was a little unlucky, slipping in the muddy goalmouth as he tried to change direction.
On the stroke of half-time, Chalfont pulled one back. Lee Watson broke clear and with Town appealing in vain for offside, he took the ball around Beames and finished well.
In the second half, Town found themselves being pegged back for long periods and on 50 minutes, Chalfont had claims for a penalty waved away.
Two minutes later, Jamie Church- ouse cut in and saw his curling shot hit the Abingdon crossbar.
Mark Scanes forced a defender to turn a Harper cross against his own post, but the home side exerted a fair bit of late pressure and Abingdon were left hanging on for the referee's final whistle.
Abingdon Tn: Beames, Coyle (Steedman), Burden, Beauchamp, Tregurtha, Parker, Hendra, Didcock, Scanes, Harper (Brewerton), Potter.
