Hundreds of rowers will arrive in Wallingford on December 8 to compete in one of the town's biggest ever rowing events.

About 200 boats and up to 1,000 crew members are expected to take part in Wallingford Rowing Club's Winter Head time trial.

Rowers from across the country will test their stamina over a distance of 4,500m in a race against the clock, from Moulsford railway bridge to the former Wallingford marina site at Chalmore Gardens.

Committee member Christopher Bomford: "After our successful regatta events in 2002 and four of our members winning medals at the Commonwealth Games, the club is going from strength to strength."
