National League 2 report: It may have been top versus bottom, but leaders Henley Hawks had to rely on a late penalty by Barry Reeves to snatch a 21-20 win away to Fylde, after trailing for much of the game.

On a veritable mud patch, Hawks played some of their best rugby of the season, only to be foiled time and again by a stubborn Fylde defence.

Henley winger Nnamdi Obi opened the scoring, beating several would-be tacklers to score his seventh try in eight starts. Reeves missed the conversion and three penalty attempts in the first half.

Fylde took the lead when big No 8 Dylan O'Grady touched down after a rolling maul and he repeated the feat early in the second half to give his side a 14-5 lead, with Loxton adding two conversions.

After Reeves and Loxton had exchanged penalties, Obi chased Reeves's kick downfield and hacked on to gather the ball over the Fylde line and score between the posts.

Reeves's conversion put the Hawks two points behind, but not for long as Loxton added another penalty.

The visitors then forced Fylde into giving away two penalties close to the posts which Reeves, now back in his usual reliable kicking form, duly slotted to clinch the points.
