Unexpected passenger demand and technical difficulties with Virgin's £1bn new fleet have meant the company has brought back trains built in the 1970s. The operator has re-introduced some InterCity 125 trains on its Cross Country line linking Oxford to Birmingham and Reading.
There have been problems with some of the trains in the Voyager fleet, launched at Oxford by Virgin owner Sir Richard Branson, who lives in Kidlington, in June.
