Morrells of Oxford Sunday League round-up: The weather may have hit the league programme but it could prevent a cracking nine-goal thriller between Woodchip Wanderers and Star Wanderers Res, both in the top three of Division 2.

Woodchip eventually ran out 5-4 winners with goals from Alex Thomas, John Barker, Robin Trinder, John Smith and Ashley Pick.

Star's efforts came from Russell Whitlock (2), Paul Collins and Mark Viner, but they were unhappy about some of the referee's decisions.

Northway started very sluggishly at Cricketers on a slippery Roman Way pitch and fell behind to a goal midway through the half when Mark Beauchamp capitalised on a defensive mix-up.

A good old-fashioned half-time rollicking did the trick as Northway scored two quick goals from Chris Baker and Simon Drewett.

This knocked the stuffing out of Cricketers and Northway dominated the period, Stuart Hamilton making it 3-1 in his first game back after injury.

Cricketers kept battling back, but wayward finishing saw them slip to another defeat.

In Division 3, Marston Village continued their unbeaten run with a comprehensive 5-0 home victory over Chase Finance Res.

Adam Thompson opened the scoring with a fine header from a corner and Terry Kirtland added a second before half-time.

Thompson completed his hat-trick with two more in the second period, before Chris Williams netted with a brilliant chip over the keeper from 20 yards.
