A woman believed to be Oxfordshire's oldest resident has celebrated her 105th birthday.
Hilda Brooks
Great grandmother Hilda Brooks was proud to receive a telegram from the Queen as she enjoyed a family party at the Spencer Court Care Home For Older People, in Union Road, Woodstock, on December 4.
Her son, Donald, 59, arrived with chocolate, flowers and sherry to celebrate the birthday with his wife, Pat, 57.
Mrs Brook's grand-daughter, Paula, 36, and great grand-daughter, Amber, five, were also at the party.
Mrs Brooks was born on December 4, 1897 in Curbridge.
"Her father was a thatcher, and they moved around, from farm to farm," said Mr Brooks.
Mrs Brooks remembers working at an ammunition factory in Coventry during the Second World War.
She met her late husband, Thomas George Brooks, a bricklayer, in Eynsham, and she stayed in the village until she moved to Spencer Court last year.
When asked what the secret of a long and happy life is, she said: "Hard work. My mother had a big family and I was kept at home to wash and clean, then went into service."
