The former Oxford City, Carterton Town, Witney Town and Abingdon Town defender is the subject of a seven-day approach from United.
Abingdon manager Nobby Hayward said: "We feel that with his experience, if we can get Jon on board, he will be a good acquisition for the club."
Hayward has already made one new signing this week by snapping up Didcot Town midfielder Dave Beaven, who has been out of favour since Peter Foley took over as manager at Didcot.
"Hopefully it will work out for both parties," added Hayward, whose side are without a game tomorrow.
Chippy, meanwhile, have been foiled in their bid for Abingdon Town wing back Chris Potter.
They have also been rocked by the news that goalkeeper Ewan Prentice will miss the next two months due to a serious knee injury.
Jeremy Winter takes over between the sticks for the trip to Kidlington in Division 1 West tomorrow when Seb Wilsker (knee) will also be missing.
Kidlington will be without Danny Morris, but are hoping Owen Bunce and Danny Mason will be available.
Steve Moseley is back from holiday as Adderbury Park entertain Purton.
Steve Williams and Shaun Miller are injury doubts for Clanfield's trip to Ardley United.
In the Premier Division, Bicester Town include new signing, striker Graham Edney from Didcot Town, in their squad for the home game against Tuffley Rovers.
