Two police officers were injured when they tried to break up a fight, involving up to 40 youths, at about 2.30am yesterday in Oxford city centre.
One officer suffered a broken leg and the other was badly beaten.
Both were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington but were laster allowed to go home after receiving treatment for their injuries
A 21-year-old man was being questioned today at St Aldate's police station in Oxford.
Insp Geoff Wooloff, of Thames Valley Police, said: "The injuries were inflicted after people involved in the fight turned on the officers."
