S Counties League North: Bicester brought themselves back into the promotion picture with a gutsy 29-21 victory over second-placed Slough, thanks mainly to a massive effort from the pack at Oxford Road.

Led by hooker Nick Evans, who returned to the side early from injury, the pack repeatedly shunted their Slough opposite numbers back, while Mark Malins and Christian Wright won a lot of line-out possession.

Bicester trailed 10-7 at half-time, despite a close-range try from scrum half Mark Nash, which was converted by fly half Alistair Smith.

However, a golden spell took Bicester 26-10 ahead with a pushover try from Wright and further scores from George Williams and Mark Grace from line-out drives. Smith converted two of them.

Slough added two penalties and an unconverted try, but Smith's penalty enabled Bicester to hang on.
