A motorist and the driver of an articulated lorry had lucky escapes when their vehicles veered off a dual-carriageway and down an embankment.
Didcot firefighters worked closely with a paramedic ambulance crew for nearly two hours to free the motorist.
He was trapped when his Ford Sierra was crushed by the lorry, in the accident that happened on the A34 at Milton, near Didcot, on December 6.
The crash occurred on the northbound carriageway between the Milton interchange and the Drayton flyover.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Assistant Divisional Officer Tony Prosser said: "It was a very technical rescue operation involving two crews from Didcot and a rescue unit from Kidlington."
He added: "The car was crushed around the driver by the articulated lorry which had rolled over."
The motorist, whose name has not yet been released by police, was eventually removed from the car with head injuries and taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, by air ambulance.
The lorry driver was treated for shock at the scene.
ADO Prosser said: "Both drivers were fortunate that their injuries were not more serious."
The car and the lorry were both travelling towards Oxford when the crash happened.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
