An evening of table dancing at an Oxford bar has been hailed as a success by the manager.
Martin Forde, manager of Baby in Cowley Road, said more than 100 people turned up on Sunday to see 10 scantily clad women and and two men perform table dances.
He said: "We had a lot of men and women come to see it. It wasn't sleazy -- it was a lovely night out.
"Nobody turned up to object. We kept it quite low-key.
"The security was extremely strict, searching everyone who came in."
He said male dancers would perform every third Sunday.
"We are catering for both sexes," he added.
Oxford City Council's licensing panel granted permission for lap dancing at the club on November 4.
Oxford city councillors have asked environmental health officers to monitor closely activities at the bar.
Dancers must wear at least G-strings.
But Mr Forde said the regular Sunday night entertainment would involve dancing beside tables, not lap-dancing.
The application was opposed by more than 500 people, churches, schools and Muslims.
The Central Oxford Mosque Society said it was appalled.
The vicar of St Mary and St John Church on Cowley Road, the Rev Adam Romanis, who objected, feared the council's decision would set a precedent.
"We don't want Cowley Road to be the Soho of Oxford," he said.
"I would not expect there to be any problem at all associated with what Baby bar is doing now.
"The anxiety is the proliferation of this kind of thing in Cowley Road. We don't want that."
City councillor Manawar Jan-Khan, who is a Muslim, said: "It's not only offensive to Muslims, it's offensive to all communities."
