Oxford United Reserves went down 2-0 to Northampton Town Res in Monday's behind-closed-doors friendly.
Although the main plus was Lee Steele continuing his comeback with another 90 minutes, coach Mike Ford was disappointed with the performance.
"We were very poor," he said.
"It was a bit of a come down after Sunday, to be honest. But you just wonder whether some of the players think they know more than the staff.
"You tell them what to do in order to get in the manager's thoughts, they nod and agree, but then they don't do it, which is a bit of a concern."
