The body of a 12-year-old boy who went missing after falling into the River Thames in November is believed to have been found.

Nathan Monaghan, pictured, of MacKenzie Avenue, in Milton Heights, near Didcot, was swept under sluice gates at the weir in Sutton Courtenay, near Abingdon, on November 9 after falling and hitting his head.

Police divers searched the area and found a body near Long Wittenham on December 10, three miles downstream from the weir.

Police believe it to be Nathan and his family have been informed.

Nathan, a pupil at Larkmead School in Abingdon, was fishing at Sutton Pools with Joe McKenzie, of Milton Road, Sutton Courtenay, when the accident happened.

The boys are believed to have been standing on one of four sets of sluice gates when Nathan slipped, hit his head and fell into the river.

An extensive police search, using dogs and helicopters, was carried out, with help from Nathan's family and friends. The Environment Agency also closed the sluice gates to reduce the flow of water. More than a dozen family and friends also took part in the search.
