A man took his own life days before he was due to have an operation which would have confined him to a wheelchair, an inquest heard.
Jason Paul Arthurs, 29, was found lying on the floor of a bedroom in his parents' home at Hamfield, Wantage.
He had cuts to his wrist and neck.
An ambulance was called at about 8.30am on September 30, but paramedics were unable to revive him.
The inquest heard Mr Arthurs had been diagnosed with diabetes in 1984.
He had suffered related problems since, including gangrene in both feet, which required amputation.
The weekend before the operation he had asked to leave hospital to spend some time at home.
His father, Patrick Arthurs, told the inquest his son had been depressed about the impending operation.
Oxfordshire coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a verdict that Mr Arthurs had taken his own life, because his prospects were poor.
