Notices telling drivers how far they are from the city centre are to be added to a series of Welcome to Oxford signs.
Six signs were put up around the outskirts of the city to alert visitors to Oxford's attractions, including museums, theatres and historic buildings.
One sign on the old Bicester Road left villagers seething last month, when it was placed just yards from the Gosford parish boundary.
Enraged Gosford and Water Eaton parish councillors called on Oxfordshire County Council to take action to move the sign, as they said it was inaccurate.
Residents in nearby Kidlington were also keen to make sure their village retained its identity as a separate entity to Oxford.
In a letter to the Oxford Mail, David Robertson, of Oxfordshire County Council's environmental services department said the signs were meant to tell visitors about Oxford's attractions.
He said: "We agree that the sign at Gosford and Water Eaton was incorrectly located and we have already made arrangements for it to be repositioned. It may be sensible to relocate the Cumnor Hill sign as well.
"A plate will be added to all the Welcome to Oxford signs on the approaches to Oxford, which will indicate the distance to the city centre."
However, chairman of Gosford and Water Eaton Parish Council, Muriel Prestidge, remained livid.
She said: "I don't like the idea of the sign at all. It is going to be moved to opposite Sainsbury's, near the roundabout. I don't like the idea of the distance plates either. I just want them to get off our land completely."
