South West 2 East: Even though they were without influential skipper Mike Turner and flanker Ian Hall, Grove only went down 15-7 against Chippenham, who beat them by 31 points on the first day of the season.
Grove took the lead inside two minutes, when No 8 Ben Nicholl scampered over between the posts to give centre Richard Williams an easy conversion.
Sadly, this was to be Grove's only score despite some heroic efforts later in the match, defensive frailties allowing Chippenham to score two tries and so lead 10-7 at half-time.
Kevin Wood was tackled just short of the try line in an extensive Grove attack early in the second half, before flanker Paul Harpwood and his opposite number were shown the yellow card for fighting.
Grove launched further attacks and Nicholl touched down, only for the try to be disallowed for crossing.
With time running out, Chippenham settled the points with another try.
