Charity organisations are hoping to start the new year by recruiting new volunteers at Bicester's first community fair.

The event, which has been organised by Homestart Bicester, the town's Citizens Advice Bureau and the Experience Corps, is taking place at Weyland Hall, in North Street, on January 9.

So far about 20 community organisations are taking part. Each group is setting up a stall and people will be able to learn more about the help and support that is available in the town.

Groups will also be hoping to recruit new volunteers.

Claire Kelly, manager of Bicester Citizens Advice Bureau, said: "This is a wonderful way for local people to find out about the voluntary organisations in Bicester and a really good opportunity for those who are thinking of volunteering as their New Year Resolution."

Naomi Hillman, of Homestart, said: "We are hoping to encourage people to come and find out what is happening in the new year."

The community fair starts at 11am. Stalls are free, but there is limited space.
