Tony Montague's dream came true when he landed a £1,000 place-kick during the half-time break in last week's Varsity match.
Caption goes hereThe 32-year-old mathematics student from Linacre College won a competiton to represent Oxford in the 'Kick for a Grand' competition, run by match sponsors MMC.
Both he and Cambridge's representative Li Ming Ong - a female student who had never touched a rugby ball before last month - succeeded with the second of their three attempts to 'convert' from in front of the posts.
Montague recalled the build-up for his kick. He said: "Five minutes before the end of the first half I was called forward to prepare myself for the entrance at half-time.
"And then, I was called forward my the MC. It was like a dream come true. I was
entering the Twickenham stage to a great roar.
"My first attempt drifted away to the right of the posts. I was kicking at the exposed end of the ground and the wind was strong.
"Greater pressure was placed on me when the Li Ming Ong was successful at the second attempt. I did not want to let down the male fans.
"I placed the ball for my second attempt, trying to remember all the advice given to me by Matt Honeyben, the Oxford University fly-half, including to follow through with my leg.
"As the ball left the ground, I knew it would be a close call. However not as close as it was.
"The ball hit the left-hand post and fortunately dropped over the bar.
"I leapt into the air with delight. My dream had come true - I had kicked through the posts at Twickenham, the home of English rugby and on top of that was £1,000 richer.
"The money will go towards repaying part of my student loans. Unfortunately, there was not a perfect end to the day, as Oxford lost."
