Residents will be consulted on the location of gateways designed to keep heavy lorries out of Bicester town centre.
The "gateways" will reduce the width of both Buckingham and Banbury roads and change traffic priorities.
Truck drivers will be encouraged to use the rebuilt Skimmingdish Lane and the eastern sector of the town's bypass to reach the M40 junction nine at Wendlebury and the A34 dual-carriageway to Oxford and the south.
The gateways are part of an overall scheme for the town following the completion of Skimmingdish Lane, which runs off the Buckingham Road.
All roads leading off Skimmingdish Lane will have weight restrictions and lorries will also be prevented from turning into the town centre after being checked over at the Vehicle Testing Sation in Launton Road.
Bicester town councillors heard at their policy committee that the gateways could be moved to different locations, depending on the response from householders.
After a trial period, the final sites for the "gateways" will be agreed upon.
