AN Oxfordshire bride has gone into the record books by walking down the aisle -- of a department store.
The couple after the ceremony
Selina Clark, 25, of Benson, near Wallingford, and groom Matthew Birkby, 28, pictured, were married on the shop floor of Selfridges, on London's Oxford Street.
Miss Clark's proud parents Alan and Rosemary and Mr Birkby's mum Jacqui -- as well as crowds of Christmas shoppers -- looked on as the happy couple exchanged their vows.
The wedding party then used the escalators before enjoying a meal at the restaurant upstairs.
Miss Clark, an operations assistant for an IT company, and web designer Mr Birkby won a competition to launch the store's Winter of Love campaign.
Afterwards she said: "We think it was far better than any church ceremony.
"We ignored most of the shoppers, but in a way they allowed us to confirm our declaration of love in front of far more people."
The couple were chosen after a two-hour interview with Selfridges about why they deserved the free wedding.
