A village speed limit is being increased because drivers are ignoring a 30mph restriction.
Although most of the Fringford road through Caversfield, near Bicester, has a 60mph speed limit, a short stretch has a 30mph restriction. But around a mile of the road is now going up to 40mph.
Parish councillors have accepted the change.
Odette Phipps, parish council chairman, said: "The short section of the road at 30mph was a leftover from when we had American air force families in married quarters in the village. Since they left, no one takes any notice of the limit."
The change follows consultations with the police and Oxfordshire County Council, and will take place next year.
The revision is being made as part of a countywide exercise to ask parish councillors what limits they wanted. Cherwell is the last district to be looked at.
Parish councillors are also considering having traffic calming measures for Thompson Drive, which attracts rat-running drivers hoping to avoid traffic hold-ups on the nearby Bicester-Buckingham road. County councillor Catherine Fulljames supported the changes.
