WITNEY kickboxer Jan Treska has been crowned national champion for the fourth successive year.
Treska, 32, from the Windrush club, took the title with a unanimous decision from the three judges in an exciting final at Cheltenham.
Hailing from Slovakia, he was also the British and European champion in 2001, but his hopes of competing in the recent world championships were dashed by red tape.
"I was selected by Great Britain to go to the world championships, but I couldn't go because I couldn't get my papers from the Home Office," he explained.
"It was bad news, because I was in good form.
"Once you have won the national title, you want to make a further step forward, and I have won the British and European titles and I wanted to get the world title."
Treska, who is coached by Chris Hoyles, is also considering taking up boxing in a bid to go to the Olympics.
"I still feel young and I am thinking about that," he added.
Meanwhile, Treska, who is backed by the Witney Kebab House, is keen to attract more sponsorship. He can be contacted on 07884 017814.
