FRIDAY night racing bowed out at Oxford Stadium last night - and few will be sorry to see it go.
Introduced in October to boost attendances in the run-up to Christmas, it has proved only mildly successful in terms o fav seasonal trade in the last few weeks.
The opening weeks in October were dreadful - very few punters, very few diners, and some very uptight book- makers.
Stadium boss Jim Snowden admitted they probably started the Friday night sessions too early.
He said: "The last few weeks have been very successful, but starting in October was probably too early.
"It has certainly been a worthwhile boost to the Christmas trade and will make a difference to our end-of-the-year takings."
Although race nights are constantly under review, it's highly unlikely that Friday night racing will be the norm.
Snowden added: "I fav we are full on Thursdays and Saturdays, we probably wouldn't worry too much about Friday racing, but we have to make the most o fav the facilities.
"I think it's safe to say that we will put Fridays back on the map for next year, but only for November and December to make the most o fav the seasonal trade."
Meanwhile, the Stadium are gearing up for their biggest attendance of the year on Boxing Day.
This year sees a massive 14-race card, getting under way at 11am, and punters are urged to get there early.
Judging by the interest in tickets at £6 each, it will be another blockbuster. Ticket enquiries on 01865 778222.
