A councillor who lost seats on Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council has criticised residents for voting him out.

In the first edition of his newsletter In Touch, Conservative town councillor Keith Strangwood condemned people in Banbury for voting Labour.

Mr Strangwood lost to Labour candidates in May's local elections, and has accused voters in the Ruscote area of the town of ignoring his achievements.

In his newsletter, which is being distributed on the Ruscote and Bretch Hill estates, Mr Strangwood lists his achievements as a councillor for the area from May 2000 to May 2002.

He was the first Conservative councillor in Ruscote for more than 20 years, but said voters chose to 'shoot the messenger' in May.

In his two years as a county and district councillor, Mr Strangwood says he helped solve parking problems on the Bretch Hill estate, supported youth groups, pushed through plans for replacement windows and doors for council tenants, helped launch the street warden scheme, and obtained salt bins to prevent accidents on snow and ice.

He said the district council was Conservative controlled by a big majority and that Labour and LibDem members had no say in policy matters.
