Euro MP Caroline Lucas has been told that the European competition commissioner is to investigate the finances of beleaguered British Energy, following Dr Lucas's complaint over the firm's appeal to Lancaster City Council to postpone payment of £1.8m business rates.
Dr Lucas, who comes from Stonesfield, said: "It is time that the Government woke up to the fact that the nuclear industry is expensive, dangerous and deeply unpopular."
