Didcot schoolchildren could be seeking work experience placements in Europe after a French teenager spent a week working in the town's library.

Caroline Martin, l6, from Meylan, near Grenoble, is pictured with joint library manager Jennifer Burson.

Caroline has been in Didcot as a guest of Didcot-Meylan Twinning Association secretary Geoff Oldham and his family.

Caroline has previously visited the town as part of the regular Didcot-Meylan school exchange trips.

She said: "I have enjoyed being in Didcot and it helps with my English language speaking."

Mr Oldham said: "We've enjoyed having her stay with us and it could pave the way for Didcot pupils to go over to Meylan for a spell of work experience."

Jennifer Burson, co-manager at Didcot Library, said: "Caroline helped out with all sorts of different jobs at the library. We were happy to have her and hope that she found the experience worthwhile."

Next March, a party of 50 people from Didcot, including town councillors, will be flying to Meylan for three days as part of an annual twinning exchange visit.

Didcot's twinning arrangement has been running for four years, and the Didcot Twinning Association has a membership of 25.

Mr Oldham said they were always pleased to welcome new members and a skittles evening is being organised in March to help recruit new members.

The association, which publishes a regular newsletter, is now considering a second twinning arrangement with Meylan's other twin town, Plane, in Bavaria, if there is sufficient interest locally.
