Oxford City 5, Tilbury 0

Striker Howard Forinton marked his return with a brace of goals as Oxford City recorded their most convincing win of the season in Ryman Division 1 North with Saturday's five-goal thumping of Tilbury at Court Place Farm.

City played some excellent football throughout and but for splendid goalkeeping by the visitors John Folkard, the woodwork and a series of close shaves, they could easily have doubled their tally.

Forinton, who had spells with Birmingham City and Peterborough after leaving City, re-signed for the club from Yeovil last week, and he certainly made his mark.

After early efforts from Stuart Lewis, Shaun Wimble and Mark Simms had been thwarted by an alert Folkard, Forinton showed his class in the 15th minute, racing through to finish perfectly into the far corner.

As City dominated, Lewis, Forinton and Justin Lee went close, before Folkard made the save of the game when he tipped a thunderous drive from Forinton on to the underside of the bar.

Martin Brown was the next to be denied by the woodwork when his looping header struck the crossbar, and with Forinton linking up well with Lewis, City continued to open up the visiting defence.

Folkard excelled again to keep out Forinton's header from City's seventh corner, but he was powerless just before half-time when a 60-yard crossfield pass by Lewis picked out Robert Cruse, whose low cross was crashed home by Forinton.

City wasted no time after the break and in the 50th minute, Lewis got on the end of a centre from Wimble for No 3.

Although not reproducing their fluency of the first half, it was still all City and home keeper Chris Brain, a late replacement for the unwell Steve Benbow, was a spectator for most of the time.

Forinton and Craig Farley went close to a City fourth which eventually arrived in the 79th minute when Brown met a Wimble corner with a powerful header.

Substitute Nando Perna sent a good chance wide, but with five minutes left, a perfect cross from Farley was headed home by Danny Wise to complete City's nap hand.
