OXFORD Devils recorded their best National Conference win of the season when they defeated Reading Rockets 94-89 at the Rivermead Leisure Centre.

Devils, still competing at the highest level without a sponsor, struggled in the first period.

And they only stayed in touch with the Rockets through Phil Alexander's long-range shooting, finishing the period 18-16 down.

Devils introduced new signing Jake Russell to the fray in the second period with good effect as he repeatedly scored from long range.

At the break, Reading still held a five-point advantage.

Devils immediately closed this gap at the start of the third period, before the home side started to respond.

However, Devils, with Keith Kelly, Michael O'Han- lon and Russell to the fore, weathered the storm to take a one-point advantage into the final period.

Reading drew first blood to take a slender lead, but Kelly, having his best shooting game this season, started to take control with great support from O'Hanlon and Neil Baker.

Devils established a five-point lead and were beginning to sense a much-deserved win.

But the Rockets fought back well to tie the game.

At this point, Reading conceded fouls and Baker and Joe Milnes made them pay to give Devils a memorable win.
