Cherry Red Records Hellenic League round-up: Carterton closed the gap on leaders North Leigh with a 2-1 victory over their arch rivals at Kilkenny Lane on Boxing Day.
North Leigh's last defeat in the Premier Division was also at the hands of Carterton, back in August, and they have since gone 17 matches unbeaten.
In front of a good-sized Boxing Day crowd, the home side were put under early pressure, but defended strongly to deny Harry Burnley and Adam Hamp.
Carterton held out until the 39th minute when, from a corner, the ball was not cleared properly, allowing Sean Bott to slot home.
The second half was a different matter, as Carterton, with the winds at their backs, mounted attack after attack on the North Leigh goal.
They had little to show until the 69th minute when a Kenny Clarke shot was fumbled by Kevin Alder, allowing Matt Allen to stab home the ball in a goalmouth scramble.
Six minutes from time, Carterton grabbed the winner from the penalty spot after Mark Lewis was penalised for a push off the ball.
James Mortimer-Jones's spot-kick was saved by Alder, but the Carterton player followed up to net the rebound.
Witney United were held to a 1-1 draw by Shrivenham in Division 1 West.
United took the lead on 30 minutes when Neil Lyford found Kelvin Dowling, whose exquisite volley looped over keeper Chris Webb.
Christian Ayes rescued a point for the visitors on 87 minutes when he rifled home from 18 yards.
