Two demonstrators from Oxford who occupied the Indonesian Embassy in London in protest at the country's occupation of West Papua have walked free because of delays in their prosecution.
Benjamin Diss, 25, of Magdalen Road, east Oxford, and Keiran Oberman, 22, of Wellington Square, Jericho, were charged with entering or being on the premises of the diplomatic mission in Grovesnor Square on Wednesday, October 9.
Earlier this month, the pair -- together with a man from Stoke Newington, in London, and a man from Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire -- denied the charge at Bow Street Magistrates' Court.
But on Monday, the court was told the case had been delayed by the Bali bombing, and the Attorney General had not given the go-ahead for it to proceed. The defendants should not have made pleas until her permission had been granted.
District Judge Christopher Pratt refused to adjourn the case further, and dismissed the charges.
