In all public statements by the Government on the problems of road congestion, the blame is always directed towards the car.
In fact, the major cause of congestion on our roads and, indeed, a major contributor to the accident ratio is the massive increase in recent years in the number and size of commercial vehicles.
The problem will get worse. The convenience of 'pick up and deliver' ensures that goods will continue increasingly to be moved by road.
This is the priority that the Transport Secretary should be addressing.
