A bus company and police are investigating the death of an elderly woman, who fell under a bus in Oxford.
Stagecoach Oxford described the incident, which took at Carfax on Sunday morning, as a "tragic accident". Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at 7.10am.
It is thought the woman, who had just got off the bus at its last stop, slipped and fell against the side of the vehicle as it pulled off.
The driver, an Oxford man who has not been named, rushed to help her.
The woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Headington, where she died from her injuries.
Stagecoach spokesman David Whitley said the driver was shocked and distressed and was yesterday (May 5) off work.
Mr Whitley said: "It seems to have been a very tragic accident.
"It appears that the lady stepped into the side of the bus and fallen over.
We are carrying out a full investigation as are the police."
