A woman who has watched her sister endure months of treatment for cancer has scaled Ben Nevis to raise money for research.
Last summer, Jenny Carter, 40, of Wantage, and her sister Gill Parrot, 41, of Grove, discovered breast lumps on the same day. Although Jenny was given the all-clear, Gill was diagnosed with cancer and has just finished ten months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
After months of training, Jenny scaled the 4,406 ft peak as part of a group, walking through driving rain and across snow to get to the summit where she celebrated with Champagne.
Paul Frankel, a colleague at Green and Co Estates Agents in Wantage, helped her raise £5,000, which will be split between the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity and the Anthony Nolan Trust.
She said: "To climb Ben Nevis had initially been a goal of mine to mark turning 40 last October but took on so much more meaning.
"I absolutely loved the climb, the comradeship with the team and the sense of achievement. I thought of Gill a lot on the way, knowing she would have loved to be with me as she adores Scotland too."
