Australian John Allen confirmed his status as an outstanding all-round sportsman with a blistering innings in Oxford UCCE's narrow win over Gloucestershire 2nd in a 50-over friendly in The Parks on Wednesday.
The Oxford University rugby union captain, who has played first grade premier cricket for Sydney, top-scored with 82 off 94 balls in the universities' 214 all out.
Roger Sillence and Stephen Pope put Gloucestershire in the driving seat with a fifth-wicket stand of 82, but Pope's dismissal signalled a collapse. The last five wickets fell for 47 and Gloucestershire were all out for 201 in the 48th over.
**Scores: Oxford UCCE 214 (J Allen 82), Gloucestershire 2nd 201 (R Sillence 77, T Sharpe 3-33).
