Since then the 52-year-old's life has been plagued with DIY disasters.
So when Mr Small's wife Elaine, 46, spotted the WD-40 Worst DIYer contest in the Oxford Mail, she immediately put her husband's name forward. The couple, of Normandy Crescent, Cowley, were sent free tickets for the BBC's Good Homes Show, and it wasn't until they rang up to find out where the event was held, that they discovered he had won the contest.
Mr Small received tuition from television DIY expert 'Handy Andy' Kane. He said: "We had a great morning, learning about carpentry.
"I've been told I get sent a goody bag of stuff that would have been too big for me to carry home, but I've no idea of what I'm going to receive."
