An elderly woman may have died because a faulty garage door fell on her head, an inquest heard.
Elizabeth Wix, 82, was found by her husband in a confused state at their home, in Ewelme, near Wallingford, in April last year.
She had suffered two serious head injuries and was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. But she died six days later, after being transferred to a hospital unit in Swindon.
Det Sgt Angus Palmer told an inquest at Oxford Coroner's Court there was no evidence she had been assaulted.
Mrs Wix's niece, Christine Russell, of Rottingdean, near Brighton, said a garage door at the house had a broken mechanism and tended to fall on people's heads when opened.
Oxfordshire Coroner Nicholas Gardiner said: "There is very strong circumstantial evidence that, some time during the afternoon, Mrs Wix was hit on the front of the head and fell backwards. Whether this was when she was opening the garage door we will never know."
He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
