A pedestrian on his way to a church meeting died after being struck by a car at traffic lights in Banbury, an inquest heard.
Barry Evershed, 63, of Wesley Drive, Banbury, was hit by a blue Honda in Upper Windsor Street on August 2.
He suffered severe head and chest injuries and was confirmed dead on arrival at The Horton Hospital, Oxford Coroner's Court was told.
Robert Fallows, of Orchard Way, Banbury, said he saw Mr Evershed moments before the collision.
He had known him for 14 years and was a member of the same church.
Mr Fallows said he was also walking to the 7pm meeting at the Kingdom Hall.
He heard a screech of brakes and an impact, and saw Mr Evershed land in the road. Mr Fallows said: "I saw two men get out of the blue car.
"The passenger said something to the driver.
"It was something along the lines of 'I told you you were going too fast'."
Another witness, Ivan Holloway, of Burgess Road, Bloxham, heard a squeal of brakes.
He said the conditions were bright and dry.
Oxfordshire Coroner Nicholas Gardiner adjourned the hearing after two witnesses failed to attend.
No date has yet been fixed for the resumption of the proceedings.
Michael King, 21, of Thimble Hall, Hempton, near Banbury, has been charged with careless driving.
