Bicester's Wayne Dobbins just missed out on a major prize when he finished third in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon's Penfold Trophy at Maidenhead.
However, Dobbins's high placing has earned him a place in the BB&O Amateur Championship at East Berks on June 13 & 14.
In a tournament reduced from the usual two rounds to one by the poor weather during the afternoon, Dobbins went round in 71 to finish a shot behind the winner, Shane Jackson, from Richings Park.
A field of 66, with handicaps between 2.1 and 5.4, competed for the 14 qualifying places for the amateur championship.
Other Oxfordshire players to qualify were Ben O'Dell (Henley), Tom Fleming (Frilford Heath) and the Chipping Norton duo of Mark Stanton - who finished third on countback in the handicap section - and Gavin Hutchison.
Burford's John Townsley missed out by a shot.
