Morrells of Oxford Sunday League round-up from Sunday, May 18

JUSTIN Ford and John McMahon were on the scoresheet as Premier Division side Rose Hill beat third division The Nelson 2-0 to lift the League Cup, writes GEOFF BOWER.

The Nelson, the Division 3 and Jack Sadler Cup winners, played the better football, but Rose Hill battled hard and ran out deserved winners to deny their opponents' hopes of the treble.

Rose Hill shut down Nelson at every opportunity, reducing the league's highest scorers to just a few shots from distance that left the keeper untroubled.

In contrast, Rose Hill did not create many chances, but were clinical in front of goal with Ford and McMahon securing the trophy for the first time.

In the Premier Division, Blackbird Leys secured the title with a 2-1 victory at Rose Hill.

The home side took the lead when Gary Trinder fired home a long-range free kick.

But Blackbirds refused to give up, battling back to level through a Ronnie Williams penalty, and then took the lead through Nigel Swafford to seal victory and clinch the title.

Star Wanderers confirmed third place with a 2-1 victory over bottom club Wolvercote.

Both sides hit the woodwork four times, but Lee Keyes fired Star ahead when he converted a Jamie Hodges flick-on just before half-time.

Wolvercote levelled through Dan Leggett in the second half, but in the last minute, Keyes laid on the winner for Hodges.

Six Bells secured the points they needed to seal the Division 1 title with a 1-0 victory over White Horse in midweek.

And it was just as well they did, as North Oxford Con Club inflicted Bells' first defeat of the season on Sunday with a 2-0 success.

Stadhampton, runners-up in the division, also lost their unbeaten record to North Oxford by the same scoreline.

The Nelson, already Division 3 champions, have one game left, and are looking for five goals to crack the 100 league goals target for the season.

To add to their successfulyear, they overcame Marston Village 2-1 in the Derek Parker Memorial final.

Due to the lateness in learning of the Premier Division winners, the Pete Faulkner Memorial Trophy will now be rplayed at the start of next season.
