YARNTON-based powerlifter Toni Hollis achieved one of her ultimate ambitions at the British Bench Press Championships in Birmingham, when she lifted 100kg - almost twice her own body weight to secure the title.
Hollis, who was crowned World Masters champion last month, had set herself a personal target of 100kg this year.
And she achieved the impressive weight for the first time in competition, although with no drug testing at the event, it won't be ratified as a new world record.
Her training partner, Mick James, was also in fine form as he won his class (67 kg), bench-pressing 147 kg - two-and-a-half times his own body weight.
Hollis said: "It was a tough competition, and I was delighted to lift that weight. I'm now hoping to take a well-earned break."
