LORD Williams's, Thame had a day to remember in the ESFA Coca-Cola Girls Under 13 Cup final at Anfield - despite going down to a 6-1 defeat against Thomas Telford, Shropshire.
The Oxon champions took the lead in the tenth minute of Sunday's showdown at the home of Liverpool FC when Leanne Carlisle raced on to a through ball to shoot home.
But then Thomas Telford asserted their authority on the game and were 3-1 up at half-time.
The Shropshire side scored three more after the break to seal Lord Williams's fate.
But despite falling at the final hurdle, Lord Williams's manager Chris Penny was thrilled that his side had got so far.
"The girls have all really enjoyed the tournament," he said.
"The result wasn't what we had wanted, but to reach the final is a fantastic achievement and playing at Anfield has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them all." In the semi-finals, played at the Liverpool Academy training ground on Saturday in front of Reds goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, Lord Williams's beat Aylsham, Norfolk 2-0.
After a goalless first half, the Thame girls took the lead through an own goal, and a Rosie Sherrington strike into the bottom corner sealed victory.
Thomas Telford beat Wright Robinson (Greater Manchester) 2-1 on penalties after their semi finished 1-1.
