Elephants never forget, so the saying goes, and these children at St Barnabas' School in Jericho, Oxford, will always remember how their school raised cash for books for a new library.

A target of £1,000 was set for the project, which will mark the school's upgrading to a primary as part of the move to a two-tier system.
To raise the money, parents, governors and staff organised a sponsored 'readathon', taking the popular children's character, Elmer, as their theme. They coloured in squares on a patchwork elephant, just like their favourite, for every £1 raised by reading a book.
