THE highs and lows of greyhound racing were never better illustrated than by the fortunes of Manton, who was fatally injured - just nine days after he scooped a £1,000 race for his connections.
The brindle dog, owned by Oxford painter and decorator Ian Hill and trained by Paddy Curtin, had to be put down after breaking a hock in a first bend collision in the A4 on Saturday.
It was a real case of triumph turning to tragedy as Manton had picked up his biggest pay cheque the previous week when landing the valuable NGRC Jublilee Trophy.
