This is the latest from the unchallenged queen of chick-lit, writes Andrew Ffrench.
Having dealt with the topics of addiction, new motherhood and Aids in her previous novels, Keyes now turns her hand to marriage breakdown, which in this case is contributed to by failure to conceive.
But the author does not dwell too long on such a serious issue. The novel, set in Los Angeles, manages to be as funny and frothy as the members of the movie set with whom the Irish heroine Maggie is soon mixing. Keyes's handling of structure and plot has matured with each of her novels and the conclusion of Angels has a satisfying emotional integrity which has previously been lacking.
Long may she reign.
