Oxford's new tourist Information Centre in Broad Street was being officially opened on June 6.
The centre's move from Gloucester Green is part of a new approach to tourism by Oxford City Council to promote attractions throughout the county.
The centre was due to open earlier, but the opening was delayed so that rewiring could be completed.
The centre was due to be officially opened by Maureen Christian, executive member for culture, and TV's Sankha Guha from BBC1's Holiday programme.
It is expected that the new centre will provide advice for more than 400,000 visitors during its first year of operation. It should also help more than 30,000 people by phone, fax, email and its website during the same period.
Mrs Christian said: "We are now at the heart of the visitor area and can provide higher quality advice to ensure visitors make the most of their time in Oxford and Oxfordshire."
Travel journalist Mr Guha said: "Through my travels I know how important quality information is for tourists.
"I am sure the new centre is going to be a great success."
The centre offers information to local people and visitors, and stocks a wide range of guides and gifts.
The centre also provides an accommodation booking service.
Moving the centre from Gloucester Green to Broad Street was a £256,000 project.
Members of the Oxford Marketing Group, a group with interests in tourism and travel, along with staff from the Regional Tourist Board and the city and county councils attended the official opening.
